Alan Dawson (Bass/Vocals)

Written by

Alan always had an interest in music from a very early age listening to both his grand parents and parents record collection over and over.

At an early age in the UK he was a regular listener to radio Caroline. Alan became a big Beatles fan before discovering the British blues in the early 1970’s with acts like John Mayall, and Robin Trower, Alan’s music tastes also included bands like ELP, Yes, Uriah Heap, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple.

Although a late starter to actually playing most of Alan’s friends played music through high school and he was always there at jam sessions talking about arrangements and musical tastes. Eventually a friend showed him how to play a song on bass guitar and the seed was sown, jointing his first working band in 1975. Alan’s major bass playing influences coming from, Jack Bruce, John Entwistle, Greg Lake, Geezer Butler and Geddy Lee.

Alan also works as a Sound Engineer and started Mixing live sound since the early 1970’s, he went on to run a large PA system and lighting for a number of years since the late 1980’s he still occasionally mixes live sound for events and still looks after the PA for Empire Blues at smaller gigs.

Alan still also operates a recording studio, Witzend Studios, which started up in a house in 1983 and grew to what it is today. Alan had an interest in recording since high school where he would take a portable recorder to gigs and record local bands.
